[ There's that urge to be contrary that rises in him every time someone else tells him to do something, even if he was planning on doing it anyway. He's never been one naturally inclined to follow orders, but he figures he could never even begin to explain why to Geralt, who takes whatever comes his way with that same stoicism, mimics Vesemir's disappointment and paternalism better than he'll ever probably realize.

(Not that he realizes they come from different histories yet. Not that he remembers a Geralt that didn't yank back on his chain when it came time to make Jad Karadin pay in blood.)

Just swallow your resentment and learn to suck it all up like every other good little witcher. That's what they're made for, isn't it? ]
