DESCRIPTION: Half the time he forgets this thing even exists, or how to turn it on and off.
DESCRIPTION: The concept of a mailbox is rather foreign to Lambert, who's not exactly what you'd call big on personal correspondence. But there's a wooden crate you can probably drop shit into ???
BUG LAMBERT TO MAKE YOU SHIT: Given time and the right ingredients (which he'll usually ask people to provide) he can make potions (with potential side effects), oils, and bombs. You can bother him more about that in person.

Peridot catches him after he's already put Pig back in her paddock, after a brisk morning ride that sent the ground shivering. He raises a brow when he spots Peridot -- this is out of her typical routine -- but it isn't so unusual that it makes him feel any unease, and he steps over to join her, idly scanning over whatever she's doing. ]
Morning. [ He seems more relaxed, as physical exercise always makes him. It helps that he wasn't chased down yesterday, disarming some of the defensiveness he tends to feel when he's cornered. ]
no subject
[God she sucks at small talk.]
no subject
Right. [ He says decisively after a moment, frowning. ] Spit it out. What's wrong?
[ Because something all too obviously is. At least to his credit he sounds more concerned than angry. ]
no subject
[Yeah no, the grin fades, and she sags. Even she can see there's no use trying to make this flimsy charade work any longer.]
Fine. That radio conversation yesterday got weird. I just wanted to make sure you weren't still angry with me...
no subject
What? I was never angry at you. [ Although thinking about it now, he scowls at the memory, almost immediately belying his words. ] I was just pissed at Childermass being an idiot. Again.
no subject
Oh. Right! Good. [Her tail swishes and fidgets behind her, expressing some lingering anxiety.] I mean I guess I was wondering about that too, since you said it'd be better to discuss it elsewhere...
no subject
[ No one does, really. But Lambert will go on: ]
He keeps too many things to himself that he shouldn't. I already yelled at him for keeping the Blue Rose to himself before. He knew about it even before we showed up at the Manor and he never said a damn thing.
[ This may be starting to sound less like 'Lambert explaining' and more like 'Lambert bitching.' ]
no subject
The information that Childermass knew about the Blue Rose before they even arrived at the Manor is news to her, and for a moment she's actually pretty angry about it. When she thinks more critically about it, though, it makes sense. If the whole purpose of going there was to obtain the Blue Rose, then of course the Acquisitioner would be the first person that the Ringmaster told. If it had been something she wanted all of her supervisors to know, she would have gathered them together and discussed it.
So now she's just kind of bummed out wondering why the Ringmaster didn't feel like she needed to tell the rest of them that same info. She must have had a good reason for not spreading the word, right...? A reason that doesn't involve her thinking the rest of them were untrustworthy...?
She shakes her head.]
I'd hardly call the supervisor channel 'public'. There aren't that many of us, and we're supposed to work together to keep this place running. If he's put himself in danger, it's only beneficial to him for the rest of us to know. I'm not surprised to hear that his caginess is a trend, though. He was similarly unrepentant when we spoke following that time you got captured.

The last part, though, draws him up short, brows furrowed. ]
When you what? [ He didn't even really know Peridot and Childermass ever talked. ]
no subject
[At this point, she's going to turn around and go back to weeding her garden while they chat, pulling out clumps of the buggers from around the base of her cucumber plants. It's a convenient excuse for avoiding eye contact while she recalls a pretty painful time.]
Childermass and I somehow got there ahead of everyone else. Of course, he was wondering where you were, and why I was holding onto your sword... So I told him what happened. And that's when he filled me in about the heist, and how you were supposed to create a distraction-- [she does look up at him here, briefly], which, made me feel like a real idiot for interfering when I found out, thanks-- and uh. Then I yelled at him a whole bunch.
no subject
He doesn't get repentant about much. [ Off the top of his head, he can only remember one time he'd ever seen Childermass properly ashamed, and that ... that had been intimate. The memory alone makes him scowl again. Even when they're not speaking, apparently, he's doomed to have Childermass on his mind. ]
I told you already, I would have told you if I'd run into you. [ He thinks he told her that, anyway. The early days of his recover were sort of a blur. Though the last part... the last part makes him laugh. ]
Did you really yell at him, though? Wish I could have seen that. [ In his mind, the amusing mental image is makes is far from the reality, but he isn't aware of that. ] Did he get mad?
no subject
...Yeah, I did. And yeah, he did. He didn't yell at me, though. Mostly he just asked me a bunch of really uncomfortable questions that I didn't want to answer, and then said something about how he should have expected 'violence of some kind' to be involved in whatever solution you came up with for the distraction.
no subject
What, you mean he wasn't expecting that in the first place? [ He shakes his head slightly. ] The rest sounds just like him, though.
[ What's actually the most surprising thing is that he told Peridot that much at all. He must have needed to tell her something, as part of debriefing the others. But Childermass isn't one to engage in small talk or unnecessary chatter. ]
no subject
I asked him that, actually. What he expected. He said he was hoping you'd come up with a more 'creative solution'.
no subject
[ Lambert shakes his head. ]
He didn't even know I could turn into a dragon then.
no subject
[She leans back on her hands, scrunching up her nose in a thoughtful way, recalling the rest of the conversation.]
Oh yeah... I told him it was his fault you got captured, and he actually agreed with me? [She grimaces, shivers at the memory:] ...But he also got really angry when I said that.
no subject
He brushes the thought away, focusing on Peridot again. ]
He didn't mention it to me. [ Neither had Peridot until now… Not that there really was a reason to. And Childermass, as always, keeps his own counsel. ]
no subject
Why would he? It's not like he was exactly repentant about it or anything. I just told him it was his fault for encouraging you into it and then he said "it is" and proceeded to ask me what I would have done in his place. Which made me really angry.
[She pauses. Frowns.]
It was a conversation fraught with a lot of volatile emotions.
no subject
I accepted it knowing the risks, you know. It's not like he forced me into it. [ He pauses too, trying to think about how to respond to the rest. ]
It's a little hard to imagine 'Childermass' and 'volatile emotions' going together, though.
no subject
[ISN'T IT NICE HOW THEY CAN BE SO FLIPPANT ABOUT THIS NOW? HA. HA. HA.]
But anyway... I think everyone was just so exhausted and angry at that point? I don't think he had the energy to keep being aloof. Stars, I barely had the energy to yell to get my emotions across, and I LOVE being noisy! It's like, my favorite thing!
no subject
Childermass being too tired to be Childermass is kind of sobering, regardless. ]
Doubt the idiot had a chance to sleep. Must have been running off the phoenix fruit I gave him. [ And also, that he took from Lambert's trailer, but he's not going to say that. ]
Sounds like it was a lot more tiring being stuck back here than being caught. [ He can joke about that now, right? ] First thing I did when the Prince left was sleep.
no subject
[She pauses a moment, cocks her head, carefully thinking of how to phrase her next question.]
So... What's the deal with you and Childermass, anyway? I thought you two were friends or something, but I feel like the only thing I ever see you two do is argue with one another.
no subject
What, you never have any fights with your friends? [ He asks flippantly, like Peridot's missing out on a huge chunk of friendship not getting into constant arguments, gosh. ]
We just have different perspectives on some things. That's all.
no subject
[Because that would be creepy, and also she has way better things to do with her time.]
no subject
I fight with Strange too. Usually about the same thing -- doing something stupid.
